Former Peterborough United youngster blunders as Stockport County take charge of League One play-off semi-final tie against Stevenage

A blunder from former Peterborough United youngster Carl Piergianni has left Stevenage with a mountain to climb in their League One play-off semi-final with Stockport County.

Piergianni had just been named man-of-the-match by Sky TV pundit Adam Virgo as a dreadful first leg seemed certain to finish 0-0 at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday afternoon when he failed to control a simple pass enabling Stockport to break clear and claim a comical 93rd minute winning goal from substitute Ben Osborn.

Piergianni made one very brief substitute appearance for Posh in December 2010.

Former Posh loanee Tayo Edun played the whole game at left-back and had the pace to recover his own mistake earlier in the game. He was caught in possession on halfway, but home forward Dan Kemp looked for contact in the penalty area rather than shoot and the chance was gone.

Former Posh striker Malik Mothersille was an unused Stockport substitute. Ex-Posh left-back Dan Butler came on as a very late substitute for the home side. The second leg is at Stockport on Wednesday (May 13, 8pm). Bolton Wanderers host Bradford City in the first leg of their semi-final on Saturday evening (8pm).

Former Posh loanee left-back Zak Sturge played 90 minutes for Millwall in their 0-0 draw at Hull City in a Championship play-off semi-final on Friday night.
