Former Peterborough United captain set to to become the next Leicester City manager
Former Peterborough United captain Russell Martin is now the firm favourite to become the next Leicester City manager.
Martin, whose last job was a bruising experience managing Scottish giant Rangers, is believed to be in ‘advanced talks’ to replace Gary Rowett who was in charge when Leicester were relegated into League One last season.

Foxes owner Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabha is said to be an admirer of Martin's style of play, which closely resembles the one which Enzo Maresca brought to the King Power Stadium in the 2023/24 season when Leicester won promotion back to the Premier League. Martin steered Southampton to promotion from the Championship in the same season.
Former Posh boss Darren Ferguson was an early favourite to replace Rowett, but he is now thought to be more likely to take charge at League Two side Salford City.
Martin made 66 appearances for Posh between 2008 and 2010 before moving to Norwich City. He was part of the Posh team that won automatic promotion from League One as runners-up to Leicester City.
If Martin takes the job he will clash with Posh boss Luke Williams. The pair worked together at MK Dons and Swansea.
Leicester are 5-2 clear favourites to win League One with Sky Bet next season. Posh are 40-1.
The Foxes have already sold over 22,000 season tickets for the 2026-27 campaign.
