Former Peterborough United Academy player is back at the club on trial after Leicester City release
Winger Wanya Marçal’s career has turned full circle.
The 23 year-old left the Posh Academy aged 12 to join Leicester City’s Academy. He earned a senior contract with ‘The Foxes’ but the now League One club released him in the summer after 10 first-team appearances.

And now Marçal has popped up playing as a trialist for Posh in Wednesday night’s friendly win at Peterborough Sports.
Marçal was correctly identified by ‘UpThePoshCast’ journalist Charlie Mclellan. His appearance was confirmed by club officials on Thursday. Posh are seeking a new right winger, but Marcal was rejected by League One rivals Sheffield Wednesday after a brief trial.
Posh are next in friendly action at National League Boston United on Saturday (3pm kick off) and it’s unclear yet whether or not Marçal will be involved.
Posh received a small compensation fee when Marçal left for Leicester over a decade ago, but received a bonus payment when he made his 10th Foxes appearance.
Marçal ultimately made just those 10 first-team appearances for Leicester, but only one arrived in the last two years, as an 89th minute substitute in a third round FA Cup win at Cheltenham Town in January.
The former Arthur Mellows Village College student spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Dutch second-tier club De Graafschap in the Netherlands.
Marçal scored on his second Championship start for Leicester in a 2-1 win against Cardiff City in August, 2023. He has played age group football for Portugal.
