There are fears some supporters will have become used to not attending matches and won’t return.

There are also economic issues caused by lockdown, but MacAnthony said on his ‘Hard Truth’ podcast: “I’m hoping the pandemic and its consequences might actually help. Maybe some people will be so fed up with sitting indoors they will want a new hobby and will come to the football.

“I’m encouraged by how many loyal fans have stuck with us for next season. I thank them all for that.”

Posh hadsold over 500 season tickets for the 2021-22 season at the end of last week. The initial discount period runs until May 31 so Posh officials are confident there will be a surge in sales during that month.

Over 90% of 2020-21 season ticket holders did not ask for a refund despite seeing only one League One match live.
