As if injuries and suspensions to key players wasn't bad enough for Peterborough United, next up is a trip to a ground where bad things tend to happen!

The last team a Posh team suddenly struck by injuries and suspension want to visit is Wycombe Wanderers.

But a ground where Posh haven’t won on their last eight Football League visits, and where they’ve won just once in 15 trips, is next on the fixture list on Saturday.

It’s been a real tale of woe at Adams Park for Posh either side of Richard Logan grabbing a 90th-minute winner in a 2-1 success in November 2003.

Late collapses, dodgy penalties, goalkeeping embarrassments and even conceding twice without touching the ball have all been experienced by Posh sides of varying quality.

The law of averages is at least on Posh’s side after these mishaps….

October 2006

League Two

Wycombe 2, Posh 0.

Posh lost just one league game in 10 under manager Keith Alexander soon after Darragh MacAnthony bought the club. Inevitably it arrived at Wycombe courtesy of two second-half goals.

April 2008

League Two

Wycombe 2, Posh 2.

Posh were top of the league and heading towards automatic promotion. They came from behind to lead at Wycombe through goals from George Boyd and Liam Hatch, but former Posh man Scott McGleish levelled from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.

November 2018

League One

Wycombe 1, Posh 0

Posh were second in the table under the management of Steve Evans and unbeaten away from home when they visited Adams Park. The hosts won the game with a deflected second-half strike.

October 2019

League One

Wycombe 3, Posh 3

Posh played very well in this fixture and eased into a 2-0 half-time lead with goals from Mo Eisa and Josh Knight. Naturally, inspired by Adebayo Akinfenwa, the home side were soon level, helped by an own goal from Posh ‘keeper Christy Pym. No matter as Ivan Toney restored the Posh lead with a brilliant volley and a red card then reduced Wycombe to 10 men, only for a sliced clearance from Boyd and a dodgy penalty decision to give Akinfenwa the chance to equalise from the penalty spot in the 90th minute. The importance of the result was compounded when Covid struck and a rampant Posh side were pipped to a play-off place by a fading Wycombe team on the decision to finalise places on an illogical points per game system.

Young Harrison Burrows blasted Posh in front in the first-half, but back came Wycombe to win once more.

February 2024

League One

Wycombe 5, Posh 2.

Own goals from Archie Collins and goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic helped fifth-placed Posh on the way to an embarrassing loss at 15th-placed Wycombe. Posh conceded three goals in 19 minutes either side of half-time before teasing a recovery with two goals in four minutes from David Ajiboye and Ricky-Jade Jones. Bilokapic, who had already gifted former Posh man Kieran Sadlier a goal, then put through his own net and normal service was resumed.

And last season Jones bundled home from close range early in the second-half to put Posh ahead only for Richard Kone to come on score a 10-minute hat-trick. He completed his treble from the penalty spot after Manny Fernandez had picked up his second-half for needlessly punching a cross out of his own penalty area.

And another thing…

In a September 2000 Division Two game Wycombe took the lead with the last kick of the first and added a second goal at the start of the second-half after waltzing into the penalty area uninterrupted by a visiting player straight from kick-off. They therefore conceded twice without touching the ball!

In a Division Two game in 1997 the match was abandoned with Wycombe leading 2-0 with 20 minutes to go. The game was replayed the following weekend and Wycombe won 2-0 with the same players, Steve McGavin and future Posh player Miguel De Souza, scoring.
