Peterborough Sports tame Tamworth to move up to second, Stamford AFC back on track, Spalding United make a good point, Sam strikes twice for Yaxley, Holbeach hit the top

Peterborough Sports delivered a serious statement of intent today as they bashed Southern League Central Premier Division title contenders Tamworth 4-2 at the Bee Arena today (January 25).

Not only did the result and performance banish the memory of a horrible 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Hitchin four day earlier, it propelled Sports up to second place, just three points behind leaders Bromsgrove Sporting who were beaten 3-0 at home.

Not that the city side will be getting carried away as there is just two points between second and seventh in a fiercely-competitive division.

Yaxley are up to eighth in Division One Central after a cosy 3-0 win at Kempston Rovers. Sam Bennett (2) and Dan Jarvis scored the goals.

Stamford AFC are back on the winning track as they beat Kidsgrove Athletic 2-0 at the Zeeco Stadium thanks to goals from Harry Vince and Cosmos Matwasa. The Daniels are second and received a further boost when two Lewis Brownhill goals secured a 2-2 draw for Spalding United at promotion contenders Belper.

Holbeach are top of the United Counties Premier Division after a 4-0 rout of Desborough as Will Bird, Liam Adams, Michael Frew and Jonny Lockie all netted, while Deeping Rangers came from behind to win 4-2 at lowly Pinchbeck. Tom Garrick scored twice. Peterborough Northern Star were well beaten 3-0 by a slick Quorn side.
