Peterborough Sports make another signing as Birmingham City defender arrives at PIMS Park
Peterborough Sports have bolstered their squad for the National League North trip to neighbours King’s Lynn Town on Boxing Day (3pm).
The city side have signed Birmingham City Under 21 centre-back Zach Willis on a month’s loan. Willis (19), a former skipper of Blues Under 18 side, signed his first professional contract at St Andrew’s in July 2024. He played in first-team friendlies in the most recent summer.
Willis joins a team third from bottom after three successive National League defeats. They’ve lost their last four competitive games conceding 13 goals, including four in a dismal home defeat at the hands of Scarborough Athletic last weekend.
Sports need to maintain a strong recent record against King’s Lynn to have any chance of climbing out of the relegation zone. They haven’t lost any of the last four meetings and two Dan Jarvis goals earned Sports a 2-1 win in this fixture last Christmas.
Elsewhere Bourne Town appear to have a great chance of escaping the Northern Premier Midlands Division drop zone as they host Corby Town at the Abbey Lawn (3pm).
The Steelmen have run into financial difficulties which has prompted the departures of their management team and several senior players. They lost 7-0 at home to Long Eaton last weekend.
The rest of the upcoming non-league programme takes place on Saturday. There are a host of festive derbies including Spalding United v Stamford AFC and Whittlesey Athletic v FC Peterborough.
