The city side won 4-1 at lowly Leiston to jump up to fifth place in the Premier Division Central of the Southern League with Nicholson claiming two of the goals. The former Posh player had missed the crucial spotkick as Sports bowed out of the FA Cup on penalties to Banbury in their previous outing.

Maniche Sani and Josh McCammon scored the other Sports goals.

Tom Siddons’ first-half strike looked set to give Daniels the win against a fellow Northern Premier League side, but the visitors equalised from the penalty spot with 14 minutes to go.

But cometh the hour cometh super sub Jon Challinor who scored an 80th minute winner for Stamford.

Wisbech Town failed to join them in Monday’s (October 19) draw for the next round as they went down 2-1 at home to Coleshill. Yaxley’s scheduled tie against Chasetown was postponed after a positive Covid test in the opposition camp.

Holbeach United delivered the result of the day in the United Counties Premier Division. They came from behind to beat Loughborough University 2-1 at Carters Park despite playing the final hour with 10 men after Josh Ford picked up a straight red card.

The students already led at the time, but two Jordan Elston goals earned the Tigers the win.

It was a shocking day for Deeping Rangers who went down 5-0 at Lutterworth Town and suffered two red cards, one for Dan Flack in the first-half and one for coach Peter Costello late on.

Pinchbeck United are stuck on two points after a 3-1 defeat at ON Chenecks, but that’s a point more than Peterborough Northern Star who just failed to complete a stirring fightback against Oadby at the Branch Bros Stadium.

Star were 3-0 down when Jamie Graham pulled a goal back from the penalty spot just before the break and when Toby Marumahoko scored a cracker in the 53rd minute it was very much game on, but Star couldn’t find an equaliser.

James Hill-Seekings scored twice in Whittlesey Athletic’s 3-3 Division One draw with Lutterworth Athletic at Feldale Field and Nathan Anthony’s late equaliser gave Bourne Town a point from a 2-2 home draw with Bugbrooke St Michael, but Blackstones were beaten narrowly 1-0 at leaders Long Buckby.

March Town are third in Eastern Counties Division One North with six wins from seven games after a 2-1 home success over Debenham LC. Jack Friend and Craig Gillies scored the goals.
