Peterborough Sports boss insists he is managing the best striker in his division, plus all the Bank Holiday Monday fixtures

Peterborough Sports boss Graham Drury believes he is managing the best striker in the Southern Premier Division Central.

The facts certainly back Drury up as Leon Lobjoit made it 58 goals in his 74 appearances at step 3 level with the winning goal in Friday night’s 2-1 win over Anstey Nomads at PIMS Park. Strike partner Ben Beresford also netted as Sports picked up their first win of the season.

"Leon is the best striker in the division,” Drury told Peterborough Community Radio. “Those stats don’t lie. They are not made up. It was a wonderful winning goal and it capped an excellent performance from him.

"Leon and Ben Beresford worked well as a pair and I was delighted to see Ben score. He would admit himself he was not up to scratch pre-season and I was looking at him wondering if he would ever play, but he’s worked his socks off whenever he has come on as a substitute. I told him to keep working hard and the chances would come and it paid off.

"I was proud of the whole team on Friday as Anstey are a very good side, full of confidence after their promotion last season and their good start to this season. They have a lot of energy and you have to go toe-to-toe with them and we did.

"We played risk-reward football because we needed to win and we didn’t panic when we conceded an equaliser.”

Sports are now 16th in the table ahead of a trip to mid-table Needham Market on Monday. The Suffolk-based side came from behind to win 2-1 at struggling Stratford on Saturday, but have lost both their home games to date.

Drury added: “Needham Market are a very good footballing side wo we will need to repeat the way we played on Friday night and be a bit tidier in possession.”

Bottom club Stamford AFC will try and avoid a sixth straight defeat at Kettering Town tomorrow.

Spalding United have a tough National League awayday at South Shields tomorrow when Bourne Town are back in Northern Premier Midlands Division action at Boston Town.

Deeping Rangers and Yaxley have home matches in the United Counties League. Deeping have lost all five of their Premier Division North games this season.
