It’s an unenviable task for Burton who takes over the side propping up the United Counties Premier Division with just two points from 11 matches.

Burton, who was a successful manager of Yaxley Reserves joined UCL Division One side Blackstones as assistant manager in the summer.

He replaces Dwayne Rankin who was promoted from managing Star Reserves just before the start of the season after summer managerial appointment Scott Goodwin left the club without taking charge of a competitive match.

“We believe Lloyd will do a great job,” Star co-owner Scott Steward stated. “He knows the standard. There were eight or nine new players at training over the weekend.

“We would like to thank Dwayne for all his hard work. We would still like to keep him in and the around the club as we have a good five-year plan and let’s hope this is the start of it.”

Star are back in Premier Division action on Saturday when Lutterworth Town visit the Branch Bros Stadium (December 12, 3pm).

Star jost Peterborough League side Stanground Sports in a friendly tomorrow (December 8, 7.30pm).
