OBITUARY: The sad passing of a club stalwart

Long-serving Peterborough United employee Derek Poole passed away last night (August 1).

Poole was emplyed by Posh for 40 years, most notably as head groundsman. He is survived by his widow Margaret who also worked at Posh for many years in many roles, most notably in the club ticket office.

The pair were regarded so highly for their service and the standard of their work, they were awarded a testimonial match against their beloved West Ham United in July, 2001.

A club statement read: “The football club are saddened to learn of the passing of former long-serving employee Derek Poole.

“Derek was an employee of Peterborough United for over 40 years in a number of roles including head groundsman and kit man.

“Our thoughts and condolences go to wife Margaret and the rest of the family at this incredibly sad time.”
