North End beat ‘abysmal’ Netherton, leaders are held, match postponed because of dodgy pitch markings, Cardea’s Fox in the box and a goalscoring goalkeeper

Peterborough North End Sports were cock-a-hoop after their come-from behind win at Netherton United in the Peterborough Premier Division on Saturday (October 24).

North End were trailing at the break courtesy of a controversially-awarded penalty converted by Chris Down, but they dominated most of the contest and were rewarded by second-half goals from Tom Hutton and Joe Graham.

“We were abysmal,” moaned Netherton manager Jon Harrison. “There wasn’t a single positive.”

North End are up to fourth, just two points behind second-placed Netherton with a game in hand. The winners have another tough game next Saturday as they visit a Moulton Harrox side who have won all five of their top-flight games this season, the latest 8-1 at whipping boys Oakham United as Joe Townsend claimed a treble.

Stilton United are now a point clear at the top despite being held to a 2-2 draw at unbeaten draw specialists Holbeach United Reserves. Jordan Fiddes scored twice for Stilton with Josh Balding scoring both goals for Holbeach.

Third-placed FC Parson Drove’s scheduled game with Stamford Lions was rather embarrassingly called off because of incorrect pitch markings!

Eye United played 80 minutes with 10 men, but still beat winless Ketton 3-2 and ICA Sports were pipped 1-0 at Long Sutton Athletic.

In Division One goalkeeper Paul Greenhalgh scored with a wind-assisted clearance for leaders Wittering Premiair in a 4-1 win at Whittlesey Athletic Reserves.

Wittering have won all eight games this season, scoring 41 goals. They haven’t yet scored fewer than three goals in a game. Lee Croft scored twice at Whittlesey to make it 15 goals for the season.
