The city side went down 2-1 at promotion rivals Stewart & Lloyds in Corby last night (February 16) despite taking a first-half lead through recent signing Josh Moreman.

Sports had the advantage of a slope in the first half and should have reached the interval more than a goal ahead as Karl Gibbs and Jordan Macleod missed decent scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper Lea Jordan came to Sports’ rescue with a fine save from a one-on-one situation.

The home side used the elements in their favour effectively after the break and equalised from a 72nd-minute corner before breaking away to claim the winning goal just four minutes later.

Sports were denied a late penalty claim for handball late on before accepting a second successive defeat. The city side were also beaten 3-0 at Long Buckby at the weekend (February 13), but stil boast an 11-point lead at the top of the table.

Wisbech cruised into the final of the Cambs Invitation Cup with a 3-0 semi-final win over Cambs League side Hardwick at the Fenland Stadium.

Hardwick had beaten step 3 side Histon in a previous round, but were under the cosh from the start with Billy Smith firing the Fenmen in front after just five minutes.
