Forrester tried to train on the day before the game, but pulled up. He has not yet been ruled out of this Saturday’s (February 11) big game against League One leaders Sheffield United at the ABAX Stadium.

The players, and manager Grant McCann, returned to work this morning after a two-day break.

McCann, who left post-match press duties at Vale Park to his assistant Lee Glover, was pleased with his side’s efforts last weekend. He’s determined to ensure that standard of commitment stays in place for the final 17 matches of the League One campaign.

Substitute Junior Morias scored his first two goals for the club at Vale Park after Marcus Maddison had given Posh a first-half lead with a spectacular strike.

“We were back to our resilient best,” McCann stated. “We’d looked a bit frail in our two previous games, but I was confident going into the game because we’d had an excellent week building-up to the match at Vale.

Port Vale are not in the best form, but they had a very good home record so it’s an excellent result for us.

“We were the better team in the first-half and probably should have scored a second goal and when we came under pressure in the second-half our centre-backs were outstanding, winning every cross that came into the penalty area. In fact our back four were very good during that spell.

“I was pleased with Anthony Grant’s debut and he showed his experience by not reacting when the Vale players got stuck into him. Craig Mackail-Smith gave us the intelligent runs behind the back four we’ve been lacking this season and I was delighted Junior Morias finally introduced himself to the Posh fans.

“It was a good day for us, but we need to make this standard the norm now and we need to start winning our home games.

“We have a lot of games in February so it’s a good time to go on a run of wins. It’s a tough game obviously this weekend, but we played pretty well up there earlier in the season in what was a very good game of football.”
