There was one forced change to the XI that started the win against Southport at the weekend, with centre-back Connor Johnson returning from suspension to replace injured striker Kaine Felix.

It was a fairly quiet start to the game, but the hosts were the first to apply pressure early on.

Jordan Burrow had the first chance of the game for Buxton on 10 minutes when he saw his effort easily claimed by Peter Crook in the Sports goal.

On 14 minutes, the Sports dugout were displeased with a foul on Connor Johnson which occurred right in front of them however, the referee did not deem it to be a red card offence.

Two minutes later, ‘The Bucks’ had the lead when in-form attacking midfielder Diego De Girolamo picked the ball up in the middle of the park, had the space to drive forward and slot home into the bottom corner.

After going behind, Sports seemed to wake up and spark into life.

Mark Jones won a free kick in a decent shooting position on 20 minutes and recent signing from Lincoln City, Oisin Gallagher, took it, but it was straight into the Buxton wall.

However Sports did find the back of the net a couple of minutes later and Buxton’s goalkeeper Max Dearnley will certainly want to erase the nature of the equaliser from his memory.

Winger Fowkes drove in from the right-hand side and his left-footed effort from just outside the 18 yard box was not claimed by Dearnley and the ball went through his hands and trickled into the net.

If going behind sparked The Turbines into life then the equaliser gave them even more firepower and they finished the first half the better of the two sides.

In first half stoppage time, Sports thought they had got the lead when Mark Jones powered a header past Dearnley from a corner however, the referee blew up for a foul and disallowed the goal.

With just one minute of the second half played, Buxton very nearly went back ahead when McKeown headed the ball goalwards over an onrushing Crook however, Connor Johnson got back to clear the danger in the nick of time.

A few minutes later, a cross from Gallagher looked to be heading towards goal, but Dearnley palmed the danger away.

Fowkes was causing the Buxton defence problems all evening as he continued to run at them with his pace and neat skill.

Crook was called into action on 76 minutes, pulling off a good low diving save to deny a decent shot from distance. However, there wasn’t much he could do moments later when he saved a shot from close range, but the rebound then fell to Burrow who smashed the ball back across goal to find the bottom corner and put the hosts back ahead.

Sports may have been down, but they certainly were not out. The introduction of winger Harrison Nee from the substitutes bench in the latter stages seemed to add more spark to Sports’ attacking as they pushed for the equaliser.

Six minutes of injury time was added and ‘The Turbines’ continued to press. First Johnson saw an ambitious, but on-target effort from distance well held by Dearnley in the first minute of stoppage time and then captain Jones brought the ball down well in the area and forced a good stop from Dearnley.

Sports finally got that all-important equaliser in the fourth minute of added time when the ball broke nicely to McCammon in the area to take aim at goal. His initial shot was blocked, but then the rebound kindly fell straight back to him and he expertly smashed the ball home with one touch, sending the players, management team and supporters wild!

Sports: Peter Crook, Matt Tootle, Hayden Cann, Connor Johnson, Ashton Fox (sub Harrison Nee, 84 mins), Dan Lawlor, Dan Jarvis, Josh McCammon, Oisin Gallagher, Ben Fowkes, Josh McCammon, Mark Jones.

Unused Subs: Roddy McGlinchey, Cuba Meyer, Hugh Alban-Jones, Michael Gash.
