Hundreds of England fans were left devastated at Peterborough’s Charters Bar last night (Wednesday, July 15) after the Three Lions let a lead slip to crash out of the World Cup against Argentina.
Anthony Gordon’s 55th minute strike gave Thomas Tuchel’s men the lead, but Argentina drew level 30 minutes later thanks to a superb strike from Chelsea man Enzo Fernandez.
Hopes of a first World Cup final in 60 years were crushed in added time when Lautaro Martinez headed in Lionel Messi’s cross to send Argentina to the final.
Fans in Peterborough and across the country, who have become so used to heartbreak in recent years, were left forlorn at the full time whistle.
