Goalkeeper-turned-poacher strikes for Peterborough Northern Star again, big upset for Netherton United
Former Posh and Manchester United goalkeeper Luke Steele’s new career as a free-scoring striker continues to gather pace.
Steele played as a centre forward for Peterborough Northern Star Reserves in a Peterborough League Senior Cup tie against FC Peterborough and bagged a hat-trick in a 3-2 win.
FC Peterborough led 2-1 at the break through Arslan Ali and Jason Lomas.
Premier Division big Netherton United are in the same Senior Cup group as Star, but one of the sompetition favourites are struggling to qualify after a shock home defeat to Division One outfit Eunice on Saturday.
Huntingdon-based Eunice, backed by a large following of vocal fans at the Grange, stormed into a 3-0 half-time lead which Netherton failed to recover despite goals from Alfie Ferguson and Zack Fisher.
Netherton boss Jon Harroson described the loss as his ‘lowest moment in football.’
Netherton have also lost to Moulton Harrox who are in firm control of the group after despatching ICA Sports 4-0 on Saturday.
Whittlesey Athletic Reserves took a second top-flight scalp as they saw off Ketton 5-0, but Premier Division Crowland have maximum points from two matches after Danny Firth scored twice in a 3-2 win over Oundle.
