Substitute Marriott scored for the Rams in a Carabao Cup win over Manchester United at Old Trafford with a close-range header after showing great anticipation in the penalty area.

That goal gave Derby a 2-1 lead late in the game and although Marouane Fellaini equalised in stoppage time, the Championship club won a high-class penalty shootout 8-7.

Marriott converted his penalty in the shootout.

Marriott tweeted after the game, saying: “What a result and what a place to get my first Derby goal!”

Marriott (24) has found it tough to break into Derby’s first-team following his £4 million move from Posh in the summer. He has yet to start a Championship match for his new club.

Marriott scored 33 goals in his sole season with Posh.
