FOOTBALL: Netherton cruise into President's Shield semis

Netherton United bounced back from Saturday's shock PFA Senior Cup defeat by Warboys to reach the semi-finals of the Peterborough League's President's Shield competition last night (January 27).

They beat Premier League rivals Whittlesey Athletic 5-0 at The Grange with Lee Clementson leading the way with a hat-trick. His goals came on 12, 57 and 89 minutes.

Tom Flatters also netted with a fluke on 55 minutes and Jezz Goldson-Williams got their fifth goal on 84 minutes.

It was a pretty even game until Flatters’ fluke.

Netherton will now meet Moulton Harrox in the semi-finals.

Manager Jon Harrison said it was the perfect response to Saturday’s 4-0 defeaat by Warboys.
