Victory against Premier League opponents in a fourth round replay to be broadcast live on BBC One this evening would be followed by a fifth round tie at moderate Championship side Reading. A win at the Madejski Stadium would then lead to a quarter-final place with the semi-finals scheduled for Wembley stadium.

Posh have never been beyond the quarter-finals in their 82-year history.

“It seems a long way off, but the reality is we are three wins from Wembley,” Westley stated. “It’s a tough game tonight and Reading away won’t be easy, but it’s also not an away match at Manchester City.

“All teams should be motivated by the thought of playing at Wembley in the greatest cup competition of them all. Our club loves the FA Cup and we intend to show that tonight.

“Obviously we will be up against it no matter what team West Brom put out.

“I always think the best chance of a lower league club beating one of the big boys is in the first game, because if there is any complacency within the bigger club that’s when it will show.

“I expect West Brom to have steeled themselves for a tough game because of what we showed in the second-half at the Hawthorns. I wouldn’t say we froze in the first-half, but we were far from our best.

“Our advantages tonight will be our ground and our fans. West Brom won’t be used to the environment they find tonight. They are used to bigger grounds and bigger crowds and that could lead to motivational issues.

“I’m told our crowd can create fantastic atmospheres in big night games and I hope that’s the case tonight. Don’t let anyone tell you that our fans didn’t help us to a crucial win at Chesterfield at the weekend.

“When we were down to nine men for the final 20 minutes or so our fans raised the roof of their stand. The supporters will hopefully have noted the better they perform, the better the team perform.

“We won’t be favourites tonight, but it’s 11 v 11 on the field. We just have to hope we can play better than them on the night.

“Scoring goals will be our main ambition because we usually concede. We will be positive and we will try and play on the front foot.

“Playing live on a main TV channel shouldn’t be a factor. We always play in front of a crowd and the TV cameras are always there ready to show the goals on a Saturday night.

“Anyway we have players who will play in the Premier League one day so this is a chance for them to showcase that talent. If they use a live TV appearance in an FA Cup game to prove it, it’s all the better for us.”

Posh will be without suspended defenders Michael Smith and Ricardo Santos, plus cup-tied striker Tom Nichols. Attacking midfielder Adil Nabi can’t play because of the terms of his January transfer to Posh from West Brom.

Centre-back Jack Baldwin is also doubtful because of a back injury.

Attacking midfielder Marcus Maddison is available after missing the win at Chesterfield because of illness.

West Brom could be without seven senior players because of injury.

If the sides are level after 90 minutes tonight extra time and penalties are available to determine the winner.

Posh are expecting a crowd in excess of 10,000.
