Dunn's delight after dramatic finish
Player-manager Ian Dunn was delighted as Pinchbeck United picked up the ChromaSport & Trophies President Premier Shield.
A late goal proved enough to beat champions Moulton Harrox on Friday night at Stamford’s Zeeco Stadium.
Dunn said: “It’s a nice way to finish the season.
“It was a tight game but I think we probably deserved to win it.
“I thought we had the better of the first half and we should have got a goal when we were on top.
“They came back into it in the second half with more possession and territory.
“They grew into the game so we had to change our shape to combat that.
“We tried to catch them on the break with pace because we were losing the midfield battle so we dropped an extra man in there.
“We tried to get the ball out wide and into the box and the goal came from one of those crosses.
“I got a touch and Tyler Wright was at the back post. I think his shot was going wide but we’ll give him the credit for putting the ball into the danger area.
“It’s a shame we couldn’t have started the season in the way we finished it.
“If we’d had a settled side in the first month then we may have pushed Moulton in the league.
“We had a bad start but our finish shows good signs for next season if we can keep the squad together.”
Moulton boss Dave Panton added: “Unfortunately we lost to an own-goal and I’m gutted for the lads.
“We didn’t play very well in the first half but then we did better and raised our standards.
“It could have gone either way but it’s still been a great season to win the league and reach a cup final in my first year.
“You can’t win everything but we’ll go again next season.”
