Peterborough Town continued their domination of champions Finedon and Bourne involved in a two-way tussle for a title

Peterborough Town have recorded a remarkable eighth win in a row at the home of perennial Northants Premier Division champions Finedon.

The latest success last weekend knocked Finedon, who are chasing a fifth successive title, off the top of the table, but also highlighted what a frustrating campaign the city side have suffered.

Town have now won four matches in a row, but remain in fourth place, 50 points behind new table-toppers Stony Stratford with five matches to go, the first of which is at home to star-studded, but erratic, Kislingbury Temperance this Saturday (11am start).

Town’s title challenge was scuppered by four defeats in a row in the middle of the summer, soon after beating Finedon at home.

Opener Josh Smith scored 57 for Town in that win, but was even more dominant last weekend with an innings of 114 as the city side chased down Finedon’s 278-6 with six wickets and almost three overs to spare. Smith is showing a welcome return to his best form and teamed up with Town’s leading run scorer Nick Green in a second wicket stand of 170. Green cracked 92 from 90 balls to take his Premier Division runs tally to 648, the second highest total in the division.

Oundle are a place behind Town after suffering a second defeat of the season to third-placed Geddington. The visitors to Milton Road won by five wickets after dismissing Oundle for 210, of which Bill Amas made 53. Oundle should get back on track on Saturday when they visit next-to-bottom Loddington.

Bourne are involved in a thrilling tussle for the Lincs Premier Division title. They are one point behind leaders Scunthorpe, who they host on the final day of the season, with three matches to go after a low-scoring 46-run win at Grimsby. Teenager Ruben Baker was the Bourne star with a 5-21 haul.

There are no LIncs Premier Division fixtures this weekend.

**Peterborough Town were beaten in the Midlands Final of the ECB Under 15 competition. Town lost by eight runs to Ombersley in a low-scoring contest at Leamington CC. Prahlad Easwaran bagged 3-10 and Sammy Spencer returned figures of 2-19 as Ombersley were restricted to 102-8 in their 20 overs.

Captain Oliver Drake top scored with 26 for Town, but they closed on 94-6.

Town had beaten Leicester Ivanhoe by 16 runs in their semi-final on the same day. Siddharth Shanmugaraj posted an unbeaten 52 (43 balls) and Adil Thobani made 38 from 32 balls in Town’s 133-5.

Easwaran, DJ Sivaganeshan, who has been playing for Town's Northants Premier Division side in recent weeks, and Krishiv Pandya all took three wickets as Ivanhoe were dismissed for 117.
