Peterborough Town back on top, but Oundle are right behind them, Bourne and Market Deeping lose ahead of derby clash, Wheat puts Orton Park to the sword

Peterborough Town stormed back to the top of the Northants Premier Division table after demolishing Finedon by eight wickets at Bretton Gate on Saturday (August 22).

Superb seam bowling from Mark Edwards (4-24) and Mohammed Danyaal (3-11) helped Town skittle Finedon for a paltry 70 on a blameless Bretton Gate pitch.

Town were soon reduced to 3-2, but captain David Clarke (38no) and Josh Smith (20no) ensured there were no more scares.

Oundle are just two points behind their neighbours in second with one group match to play before the play-offs.

Oundle dismissed Brixworth for just 90, but lost eight wickets before sneaking home. Harrison Craig (3-15 & a top score of 20) was Oundle’s star man.

Bourne and Market Deeping clash in the Lincs Premier Division at the Abbey Lawns next Saturday (August 29), but neither side approaches the game in decent form.

Bourne were beaten by eight wickets at Boston on Saturday and Market Deeping, who have yet to win a Premier Division game this summer, lost by the same scoreline at home to Grantham.

Wisbech and March were both well beaten in Cambs Division One, while Castor put Orton Park to the sword by the margin of 115 runs in Division Two.

Dynamic opener Mark Wheat cracked 89 of Castor’s 189-7 before Stuart Dockerill and Ryan Evans both claimed 3-13 as Orton were hustled out for 74.

Ufford Park won a low scoring game by three wickets at Wisbech seconds.
