Oundle Town win first Stamford Charity T20 Cup with a thrilling success over Newborough

Oundle Town won a thrilling Stanford Charity Cup T20 Final against Newborough by one run at Market Deeping on Monday night.

Newborough reached the final over needing 15 to win, but looked favourites to win when Sam Malton launched Mark Hodgson’s fourth ball for six to reduce the equation to three from two balls.

But Hodgson bounced back to dismiss Malton next ball and there was a run out off the final ball to secure a first win in the competition for the Northants Premier Division side. Newborough have still never won it.

Earlier, Newborough won the toss and decided to bowl with Oundle Town posting 147-6 from their 20 overs. Josh Smith scored a run a ball 42 and he received support from Will Compton (37, 24 balls) and Patrick Harrington (24). A breezy 12 from 4 balls from Harrison Craig (1 four and 1 six) also proved crucial. Vamshi Parvathaneni (3-27) was the pick of the bowlers

Newborough moved onto 52-1 in reply before five wickets fell for just 37 runs to leave them on 89-6. Harrison Craig, with an outstanding direct hit run out and 3-15 from four overs, ripped the heart out of the Newborough innings.

A 44 partnership for the seventh wicket was building between Parvathaneni and Malton before Connor Craig cleaned up Parvathaneni in the 19th over with the score at 133. Malton continued and became more aggressive in scoring 35, but ultimately it was to no avail. Harrison Craig was named man of the match.

Newborough get another chance to lift their first Stamford T20 trophy when taking on Burghley Park in the KO Shield Final at Ketton next Monday (July 20, 5.45pm).
