Oundle Town have taken an appeal against a hefty points deduction to the ECB, big local derby at Burghley Park and Barnack travel to leaders

Oundle Town have taken an appeal against a hefty Northants Premier Division points deduction to the ECB.

Oundle suffered a draconian 50 point deduction for inadvertently fielding an ineligible player in a June win against bottom club Loddington. Former skipper Tommy Simeons was the player in question. He had played in a lower division of the Surrey Championship for Battersea Ironsides earlier in the campaign which meant he couldn’t feature in another ECB League.

The Northants League have now rejected Oundle’s appeal so the club have taken their case to the ECB.

Oundle’s form has been impressive since the points deduction with four wins and a draw, against reigning champions Finedon, in five matches, but they remain stuck in seventh place, 84 points behind leaders Finedon, ahead of a game with Old Northamptonians at Milton Road on Saturday (11am). It wasn’t how they hoped their bicentennial season would pan out.

Oundle are just six points behind fourth-placed Peterborough Town which shows how poorly the city side have been performing. Town should snap a four-game losing streak at bottom club Loddington tomorrow.

Local rivals Burghley Park stand in the way of Bourne’s chances of reaching top spot in the Lincs Premier Division on Saturday (11.30am).

Bourne are currently second, just two points behind leaders Scunthorpe, after four wins in their last five matches, while Burghley Park have steadily improved after a slow start to reach fourth place. Scunthorpe are at fifth place Bracebridge Heath tomorrow.

The top two in the Lincs Championship South Division, Market Deeping and Newborough, are on their travels tomorrow to Grantham and Moulton Harrox respectively. Newborough travel in a buoyant mood after winning the Stamford KO Shield T20 competition for the first time on Monday.

Ramsey hope to follow-up their shock win at East Anglian Premier League leaders Horsford by seeing off second-placed Mildenhall at Cricketfield Lane (11am).

Barnack have been making steady progress in their first season back at Cambs Premier Division Two level. They are fourth ahead of a trip to leaders Godmanchester tomorrow.

Barnack warmed up with a comprehensive 216-run win at Cambridge NCI last weekend. Muhammad Raheel (119no, 110 balls) and Tanveer Hussain (80) added 192 for the sixth wicket as Barnack piled up 309-6 in 50 overs. Hussain (4-11) also bowled well as did Muhammed Shahid (3-21).
