It was a mixed day for Hunts County Cricket Club yesterday (August 4) with the first XI beating Northants Academy in a thrilling friendly, but the over 60s losing to a powerful Essex outfit in an ‘informal league’ clash.

Hunts beat the Northants youngsters by two wickets after being set a victory target of 247 at Desborough. Oundle Town brothers Harrison and Conor Craig both struck half centuries for Hunts as did Janak Valand of Hinckley Town. Harrison Craig also claimed three wickets.

Peterborough Town chairman Brian Howard rescued the over 60s from 47-7 on his home turf at Bretton Gate with a fine innings of 74 batting at number six, but a final total of 136-7 didn’t stretch an Essex side featuring three England age group players.
