Contrasting starts for Bourne and Market Deeping, Peterborough Town start title defence in emphatic fashion, all the scores from the major divisions

There were contrasting starts for Bourne and Market Deeping in the Lincs Premier Division (July 25).

Bourne crushed Sleaford by nine wickets with Tom Dixon (3-15, Jordan Temple (46no) and Sam Evision (43) all making good contributions, but Deeping lost by seven wickets at home to Lincoln after losing aggressive opener Josh Smith to the first ball of the match.

Apart from Castor’s weather-affected win over Wisbech seconds, the Cambs League was pretty much a washout, but the Rutland League got under way without interruption with reigning champions Peterborough Town thrashing Wisbech by 155 runs at Bretton Gate.

Openers Chris Milner (71) and Kyle Medcalf (68) set the tone of Town’s innings before a late flourush from Scott Howard (65no) pushed the home side up to a formidable 40-over score of 271-5.

And once Karanpal Singh (3-37) had taken the prize scalps of Gary Freear and Josh Bowers with successive balls it was plan sailing as Wisbech could only scramble to 155. Sam Jarvis and Nadeem Haider picked up two wickets apiece.

Uffington won their first ever top-flight game by seven wickets over March Town.

Harry Carter (5-35) and George Hartley (70) were Uffington’s star performers.

Market Deeping crushed fierce rivals Barnack by 10 wickets and King’s Keys eased to a 53-run win at newly-promoted Burghley Park.

Oundle claimed a prize Northants Premier Division scalp with a five-wicket win over Finedon in a rain-affected contest at Milton Road, but Peterborough Town’s hopes of a second successive win were scuppered bad weather which arrived with the city side in a commanding position at Horton House.

The hosts had slumped from 92-2 to 123 all-out thanks tro some impressive slow bowling and Town were 29-0 in just six overs when play was abandoned.
