Peterborough Police club have some rising stars

Kacper Kozak, a 14 year-old from Orton, and Imran Aref, a 16 year-old from New England, both displayed bags of skill on their way to unanimous points wins.

Kozak took on Jake Hutchinson from Bracebridge and was too good for his opponent. He produced an awesome display of powerful punching and connected cleanly with a vast array of shots throughout the three rounds.

Aref came up against Callum Forbes from Stevenage and boxed the pants off him to win the fighter of the night award.

“I was so impressed with these two lads,” said Peterborough Police ABC coach Chris Baker. “They really exceeded all expectations.

“Aref certainly is going to be one to watch. He destroyed his lad and won every round with ease. I was very surprised the referee didn’t stop the bout. It was great boxing and he wasn’t even out of breath. He looked like he’d had a dozen bouts.”

Alex Tee was just unable to make it a hat-trick of wins for the city club. The 17 year-old from Gunthorpe fought Max Haste from Bracebridge and narrowly lost on points.

Tee made the mistake of getting drawn into a good old-fashioned punch-up instead of standing off and making his reach advantage tell with long shots. But it was nonethless a game effort by Tee.

The club also had two 10 year-olds appear in skills bouts and they both showed great promise.

Imran Shirazi from Bretton boxed Levi Smith from the Allcomers ABC in his first skills bout and showed some neat touches.

Stevie Winters from Paston was matched with Levi McCann from the Kettering School of Boxing and almost knocked him out with an overhand right.

Baker added: “I’m really looking forward to seeing these boys develop. I’m sure there are some great things to come from them.”
