Alan Swann’s top 10 sports-based films to watch before Peterborough United return to action and claim their rightful place in the Championship

As we are all either self-isolating or simply bored out of our minds here is my top 10 list of the greatest sporting movies you should watch to help pass away the time before Posh claim their rightful place in the Championship.

Peterborough Telegraph readers nominated others like Remember the Titans, Coach Carter and Miracle on Ice which I have yet to see.

Ones I have seen which just miss out include Slapshot, Cool Runnings and Jerry Maguire.

Here are my top 10 in reverse order...

1.

10: DODGEBALL: Daft, but some laugh out loud moments from Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller's underdogs story.

2.

9: CHARIOTS of FIRE: Simply a great story (and a true one) from the 1924 Olympics which won the Best Picture Oscar in 1981. One of the great film title tunes of all time. Photo: PA

3.

8 WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP: A basketball movie with great banter between hustlers played by Woody Harrelson (pictured) and Wesley Snipes. Some great lines in a fine comedy/drama. Photo: Ian West/PA Photo: PA

7: I, TONYA: If you didn’t know this ice skating movie was based on real-life events you’d think it was a ridiculously far-fetched tale. But there really was a vicious assault on an ice dancer so a different ice dancer could triumph. Allison Janney (from the greatest TV show of all time ‘The West Wing’) won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her part. Photo: Midlands
