We've just had Peterborough's wettest day for at least 20 years - but when will cold snap end?

This won’t surprise anyone who dared venture outdoors on Friday – but it was the wettest day in Peterborough for at least 20 years.

While it wasn’t always heavy, the rain was continuous – and meteorologist Trevor Pratt, who runs Peterborough Weather Watch, said Friday saw more rainfall in the city than any day since his records began.

He said there was 68.3mm recorded on Friday – his previous record was 66.0mm on October 20 2023. Trevor’s records go back to October 2005.

However, while last week was record breaking, the current cold snap, that has left some reaching for the heating for the first time this autumn, is of more concern to most.

When asked what the next few days had in store, Trevor said: “The rest of the week is largely dry, with the risk of some showers.

"It will be cold, with some air frosts overnight.

"It will get milder by a couple of degrees into and through the weekend. There will be nothing extreme, either temperature or precipitation wise, despite what some other media outlets/social media would lead some to believe.”

The Met Office forecast shows that Thursday (November 20) is set to be the coldest day of the week, with temperatures struggling to get over 4C – and night time temperatures on Wednesday/Thursday not rising above freezing.

Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures rise to 8C – before a slight dip on Monday.
