Weather warning for snow and ice issued

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office.

The warning covers some of of the areas surrounding Peterborough to the north and west, including Stamford.

The warning is in place until 9pm tonight.

There is a chance of sleet in Peterborough itself today.

The Met Office warning said: "Heavy snow may affect parts of the warning area, with possible significant travel disruption.

"What to expect:

"Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers, especially across higher routes, with potential for road closures.

"Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

"Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

"Untreated pavements and cycle paths might be dangerous or even impassable, posing a greater risk of injuries and accidents."

A warning is also in place on Saturday to the north of Peterborough. Saturday's warning covers the north of the country, reaching as far south as Bourne.

Snow is forecast to hit Peterborough on Saturday.
