Van fire and garage arson keeps fire crews busy over weekend

Fire crews in the region were kept busy with a series of fires over the weekend including an arson attack on a garage.

At 11.15pm last night crews from March and Chatteris were called to a fire on Badgeney Road in March.

Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire involving a garage. They extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their stations by 12.30am.

An investigation revealed the fire was started deliberately, and anyone with information should contact police on 101.

on Friday a crew from Dogsthorpe was called to a fire on Holmes Road in Glinton at 1.55pm

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the open involving a hedgerow that was spreading to crops. They extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their station by 3.15pm.

At 2.34pm on Saturday crews from Dogsthorpe and Stanground were called to a fire on the A47 Soke Parkway.

Firefighters arrived to find a van on fire on the eastbound carriageway near Bretton. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their stations by 3.50pm.

On Sunday evening crews from Chatteris and Manea were called to a fire on Queensway in Chatteris.

Firefighters arrived at 9.10pm to find a fire behind a bungalow that was spreading to the building. They extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their stations by 11.40pm.

The property was evacuated before the crews arrived.

And at 9.28pm on Sunday crews from March and Wisbech were called to a fire on the A47 near Rings End.

Firefighters arrived to find a small bonfire in a barn and extinguished it using a hose reel. They returned to their stations by 10.10pm.

Apart from the March garage fire, all incident were caused accidentally.
