Works to repair cracking bridge between Peterborough and Whittlesey set to be completed by in February

Works to repair the structural defects on the bridge at King’s Dyke between Whittlesey and Peterborough are finally set to be completed this month.

Work has been ongoing since July to correct the road surface of the bridge and there has been a lane closure in place since July 2024.

In May 2025, contractor, Jones Bros reported further cracks that had appeared in the road surface near the centre of the carriageway.

Work was set to be completed at the end of January but was delayed due to issues with the cold weather.

Cambridgeshire County Council has now confirmed that installation of the reinforcement for the sprayed concrete is now nearing its completion and that applying the sprayed concrete is continuing along with the installation of the soil nail plates.

Works are on track to allow the road to be reopened by the end of February.

The costs for the work are being fully met by Jones Bros. Cambridgeshire County Council will not accept ownership of the bridge until the remediation work is addressed.
