Anglian Water engineers are currently at the scene, and all customers have had water supplies restored.

However, the repairs to the road could last several days.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: “The update is not good, it is looking like the A605 may be closed for up to a week as the whole carriageway has been compromised and the whole road will need to be dug up.”

An Anglian Water spokesman said it was too early to tell when the works would be completed.
