The one way system has been implemented on Priestgate after a new pop up cycle lane was installed.

The one way system means that drivers are unable to drive along Priestgate in the direction of the Town Hall, with access only available now via Wentworth Street.

However, scores of drivers have been ignoring the signs. In one 10 minute period last week, 20 drivers were seen driving along the road,

Now Peterborough City Council has said it will block off the entry to the road to ensure drivers stick to the rules.

A spokesman said; “We are aware of the issue that some vehicles are travelling illegally on the new one-way section and we will be putting in additional measures to prevent this.

“We will be blocking off the junction of Bourges Boulevard and Priestgate to vehicles turning into Priestgate so that all vehicles will have to enter via Wentworth St. Vehicles will only be able to exit from Priestgate onto Bourges Boulevard.”
