One lane of the road on the Asda side has been closed because of the deep water. There are delays to traffic as a result.

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said: “We were called at about 10.40am this morning (Thursday) with reports of flooding in Bourges Boulevard near to TK Maxx.

“Highways have been alerted and are dealing with. There are no road closures at this stage.”

A spokesman for Anglian Water said: “Both our water and wastewater teams aren’t aware of any issues relating to Anglian Water in the area. It looks like it could be blocked road drains caused by the heavy rain”

A Peterborough City Council spokesman said: “The high volume of rainfall has exceeded the capacity of the drains to discharge it, resulting in a build up of water on the road.

“A lane closure has been put in place to keep traffic out of the flooded area and a tanker is being used to assist removing the surface water. “Earlier this year the road was shut as a result of a burst water main, which left carriageway entirely flooded
