King's Dyke Bridge between Peterborough and Whittlesey set to fully reopen following repair works

King’s Dyke Bridge, between Peterborough and Whittlesey, is finally set to reopen after long-running repair works.

Plans are in place for the current lane closure to be lifted on February 28.

In the meantime, work is continuing on the final layer of sprayed concrete to allow the road to full reopen.

Work has been ongoing since July to correct the road surface of the bridge and there has been a lane closure in place since July 2024.

In May 2025, contractor, Jones Bros reported further cracks that had appeared in the road surface near the centre of the carriageway.

Work was delayed over the winter due to the cold weather but a new completion date has now been set.

Once the road is reopened, Jones Bros will continue working lower down the embankment to complete the remaining remedial work.

Following completion of the remedial work, there will be a period of settlement before the road is fully resurfaced later this year.

The costs for the work are being fully met by Jones Bros. Cambridgeshire County Council will not accept ownership of the bridge until the remediation work is addressed.
