Gas works in Peterborough paused to avoid 'gridlock' in the Ortons
A planned scheme of works have been paused to avoid ‘gridlock’ in the Ortons.
Plans were originally in place for gas works to take place in Bodesway and Blackmead in Orton Goldhay beginning on January 5.
This would have led to a partial closure of Malborne Way, however, this would have clashed with the ongoing closure of a section of Goldhay Way.
Since November, a section of Goldhay Way, close to Alnwick and Pennington has been closed while Anglian Water carries out investigation and sewer repair works.

This work is not due to be completed until January 23.
Therefore, ward councillor Kirsty Knight has been in touch with Highways and an agreement has been secured that the gas works on Malborne Way will not begin until Goldhay Way has reopened.
Cllr Knight said: “The Ortons can not cope with two major road closures and diversions. We have massive industrial estates and business parks as well as Alwalton Hill, which people forget about. Orton would have come to a standstill.
“All you need is one accident on the parkway and that would be it.
"I am grateful for Highways for their response and work to make this happen.”
