Emergency services were called to the Tesco petrol station on Welland Road, Dogsthorpe today following the blaze.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said; “Our crews from Dogsthrope were called to a vehicle fire on Welland Road at 9.20am this morning. “They arrived to find a small fire in the engine compartment of an ambulance and extinguished it using a hose reel. The cause of the fire was accidental.

“The crews were back at their stations by 10am.

“The ambulance was being test driven following some repair work, so no patients were being transported at the time.”
