Peterborough man fails driving theory test 86 times

A Peterborough man has failed his driving theory test 86 times, it has been revealed.

The 30-year-old has spent about £2,000 taking the £23 test - which you need to pass before you can take the practical test.

He is ranked third for the most resits of the theory exam in the country, behind a 30-year-old woman who has sat the theory test 113 times at the Ilford centre, and a 40-year-old man who has tried 107 times, also at the Ilford Centre, the BBC reported.

The theory test is a multiple choice exam with 50 questions about the highway code - including questions about road signs, stopping distances and even first aid. The pass mark is 43, and participants have 57 minutes to complete the test.

Nationally, it has an average pass rate of 65.4 per cent.
