Keen cyclists at the travel agents will make their way to the French capital as part a charity ride to mark a couple of important moments in the firm’s history.

Thomas Cook, which has its head office in Peterborough, is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year, and the charity cycle is one of the many activities that it is carrying out in celebration.

On Tuesday, June 14, the company is holding a 65 mile bike ride from the Thomas Cook offices in Coningsby Road, Bretton to Bletchley.

Avid cyclists are then continuing the challenge for a further five days, arriving in Paris on the Sunday in recognition of Thomas Cook’s first trip to Europe in 1855.

Staff are all raising money for Thomas Cook’s Children’s Charity.

The charity was set up with the aim of improving children’s lives, both here in the UK and overseas.

Since 2009, it has raised more than £7 million for charities that work with children in the UK and overseas by offering customers the opportunity to donate when they book a holiday.

Thomas Cook will be matching the money donated by suppliers and partners.

The 65 mile route starts in Peterborough and passes through Elton, Steeple Gidding, Kimbolton, Riseley, Harrold, Turvey and Cranfield before arriving in Bletchley for a well-deserved celebratory barbecue.
