The festival, which would see the switch-on of the Christmas lights, was due to run for most of the day tomorrow (Sunday, November 29).

Patricia Stuart-Mogg, town clerk for Stamford Town Council, said: “Having monitored the Wittering meteorological forecasts hourly since 6am this morning and consulted with Health and Safety advisers and SKDC throughout this morning, it is the considered consensus that, most regrettably, in the interest of public safety, that the Stamford Christmas festival and the Christmas lights switch-on scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday 29 November, must be cancelled.”
