If British voters decide to leave the European Union in the summer, Bourges Boulevard would be renamed - with residents being given the choice of four names to choose from.

The names - suggested by prominent Peterborough people - would reflect what the city centre means to them.

A spokeswoman for the scheme, Lady Rasp Folio said: “This is a great way for people to celebrate their city, have something they can call their own, and make a name for Peterborough.

“All the (road) signs are pointing towards a close decision on what name is best. I am sure the website used to vote for the winner will get a lot of traffic if it is needed.”

Currently the road is named after the French town of Bourges, which is twinned with Peterborough.

Lengthy roadworks would be needed should the renaming take place.
