Residents have spoken of their delight after speed bumps were installed on a busy Peterborough road – after years of campaigning.
Two sets of bumps have been installed at Mayor’s Walk, in a bid to slow drivers down and reduce the number of accidents in the area.

Every councillor gets CLF money to spend on projects in their wards to improve the lives of residents.
Cllr Ahmed said getting the scheme in place had been his number one priority after being contacted by a number of residents who raised concerns about speeding on the road.
He said: “From the very beginning of my term, I have committed myself to listening to the concerns of our residents and taking decisive action to address them.

“Working alongside Ex ward councillor Gul Nawaz and Former Conservative Councillor Mohammad Rangzeb, we utilized the Community Leadership Fund to implement vital traffic and speed calming measures along Mayors Walk. This includes the installation of speed cushions, designed to make the area safer for both pedestrians and drivers.
“This project is a testament to the power of listening and acting on the needs of the community. The residents asked for change, and I made it my mission to ensure that their voices were heard and their concerns addressed.”
Bernie Tyson, a resident living on Mayor’s Walk, welcomed the addition of the speed bumps.

We have a lot of youngsters, people in wheelchairs, trying to cross this busy Mayor’s Walk, and I am very pleased for the help of the team, especially the Nawaz family, that has always campaigned with me for many, many years. They were championing safety on the road for a very long road, and I am pleased we have finally had action.”
Former Peterborough MP Paul Bristow had campaigned for road safety measures to be installed on Mayor’s Walk during his time in Parliament – and when he was on the campaign trail in 2019.
He said: “I’ve been campaigning for this from before I became MP, at the start of 2019, so that is six years that this campaign has been running, so to see this finally here, is just wonderful. It has taken a lot of effort, it has taken a lot of focus from councillors and campaigners like myself, but we finally did it.”
