The Conservative MP is used to a fight having contested two elections last year, triumphing in the latter in December, and now he is having to battle for his constituents and the city as a whole in Parliament.

But this will be a much different contest, not that is lacking confidence.

Mr Bristow has been tweeting about the event, posting: “It might not be @HulkHogan vs @RicFlairNatrBoy for the @WWE Heavyweight Championship but wrestling is coming to #Peterborough and I am sure it’ll be awesome Smiling face with sunglasses brother... @LDNwrestling.”

However, he was called out on Twitter earlier today by Joey Scott, who tweeted: “Your right” it’s not going to be Hogan vs Flair! Let me introduce myself I’m the @LDNwrestling Capital Champion and I can’t stand people like you! How about we make Peterborough interesting tonight and you step into the ring with me??”

Undeterred, the MP replied: “#Peterborough was interesting before you ever turned up, pal. I was elected by the people to deal with bullies like you. I might just show you why! @LDNwrestling.”

Unfazed by the smack talk, Joey responded: “Believe me “Pal” your not in my league your more than welcome to show up tonight if you want me to embarrass you in front of your town? So called “Bullies” like me always win #SpoilerAlert Upside-down face.”

He later stated that the contest will be a “walk in the park”.
