The homes, which have yet to be built, will be located on Lincoln Road, Walton.

A report said: “Homelessness is an issue that Peterborough City Council are proactive in working to reduce in a number of different ways. Where there is insufficient housing stock, the Council can be forced to rely on Bed & Breakfast accommodation which is a considerable drain on the Council’s finances.

“This transaction will give PCC the opportunity to lease 9 new houses at Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates plus 10%.

“The scheme which is being developed by a local developer will be used for temporary accommodation. If in the future the demand for temporary accommodation reduces, the properties can be used for general needs housing. Planning consent has already been granted for this scheme.”

The rent will be LHA rate plus 10% per calendar month, which is currently £7,817 per property per annum and £70,354 per annum total.

B & B accommodation costs the Council £386 per person per week. The properties are scheduled to be built by January 2021.
