Residents hit out at a ‘lack of democracy’ following the news – which the council’s cabinet said was to allow staff to deal with Local Government Reorganisation – and so elected councillors would not have a one year post before more elections are held when Local Government Reorganisation does take place.
However, despite the anger on social media, when a council by-election was held last week following the sad death of Labour councillor Nick Thulbourn in the Fletton and Woodston ward, three people out of four decided not to use their vote.
Now it has been announced the Labour Government have performed a U-turn, and council elections will go ahead in May.
The Peterborough Telegraph has crunched the numbers to look at which wards have the biggest – and smallest – turnouts at local elections.
