The Great Haddon development is due to deliver 5,350 homes, four schools and further facilities close to the A1M and A15 after years of delays.

Phase 1 at the site off London Road - which is being developed by Countryside Properties - will have 347 units in total.

And due to £2.27 million of proposed new funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, 60 of the homes will be converted from market properties into affordable homes.

Of those, 17 would be affordable rental dwellings and 43 shared ownership units - a mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes.

Rent would be set at 80 per cent of the market rate and would boost the percentage of affordable homes on Phase 1 from 16 per cent to the council’s policy level of 30 per cent.

The combined authority - the county’s mayoral authority - was set up in 2017 with the Government giving it £170 million to spend on affordable housing (of which £70 million was ringfenced for Cambridge).

A decision on whether to authorise the £2.27 million expenditure will be made by the authority’s Housing and Communities Committee on Monday but is expected to go ahead.
