Labour campaigners to hold protest against Nigel Farage on return visit to Peterborough
Labour campaigners to stay in the EU will hold a protest outside the venue in Peterborough where Nigel Farage is holding a public meeting.
The UKIP leader is one of the speakers at the KingsGate Conference Centre in Staplee Way this evening (Wednesday, June 14) where he will be backing the call for Brexit.
The event starts at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm.
In a statement, the campaigners said: “The Peterborough Labour IN For Britain campaign have called an urgent mobilisation against Nigel Farage’s and the Leave campaign’s visit to Kingsgate Conference Centre, Peterborough, at 7.30pm with a gathering of local trade unions, Labour IN For Britain campaigners, and anti-fascism campaigners at 5pm. The gathering will take place outside the event.
“The decision follows the call by the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn for an urgent mobilisation of the left in Britain to defeat the Leave campaign and avoid a Tory Brexit.”
Mr Farage last visited Peterborough in March.
Last year, he caused controversy by saying children did not play on the streets of Peterborough due to immigration.
