The council will be an anchor tenant at the South Bank site in 2018 as part of the wider £120 million redevelopment to generate additional income of £7.6 million.

This would in part come from leasing both Bayard Place, on Broadway, and the non-civic areas of the Town Hall, in Bridge Street, for commercial use, with the civic areas of the Town Hall retained and used as present.

But Councillors Ed Murphy (Labour and Co-operative), Richard Ferris (Labour) and Bella Saltmarsh and David Harrington (Peterborough Independent Forum) argue: “The business case fails to take into account the wider social impact of letting Bayard Place and the Town Hall to commercial services and the decision was based purely on finances.”
